Ashton Jones is one of the UK’s finest new funk/soul vocalists and songwriters, rapidly becoming known for his vibrant and dynamic live performances. You might well recognise Ashton’s voice from some recent high profile TV commercials for Amazon UK – on the most recent, he tackles a Freddie Scott classic “You Got What I Need”
With influences including James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Rick James and Prince, and a throwback style rarely seen on this side of the Atlantic, Ashton delivers soulful melodies, gritty funk and sparks of falsetto with an audience captivating brand of energy, flare and musicianship.
His group The Ashton Jones Project features some of the UK’s most talented musicians, with live performance credits including such artists as Cory Wong, Beverley Knight, Joss Stone & Pee Wee Ellis. The Project’s hotly anticipated debut EP (released 26th April 2019) is a contemporary interpretation of classic Soul, Funk & Jazz, commencing a run of original releases for 2019.
The EP kicks off with “Good Thing Guaranteed”. A slice of feel good funk and soul, with vocals from Ashton, which sets the pace for what’s to come. Track 2 “Prelude” is an instrumental, showing off the band’s chops to full effect. The EP closes with “Sadie Marie”, which showcases Ashton’s influences – from Stevie Wonder through Donny Hathaway and Prince. A video for Good Thing Guaranteed will be released in May.
On the live stage, as well as a busy schedule of headline shows in the UK and Europe, The Ashton Jones Project has previously supported legends Shalamar and will be the special guests of UK Soul dons Incognito at their appearance at Cheltenham Jazz Festival in May 2019.
